- Xiaomi is reportedly working on 67W wireless charging technology.
- It’s believed that the tech could come to two phones.
We’ve seen Huawei previously offer 50W wireless charging on its Mate 40 series of phones, while Oppo has demonstrated 65W wireless top-up tech too. Now, it looks like Xiaomi will up the ante by offering 67W wireless charging in two upcoming commercial phones.
XDA member kacskrz dug into the MIUI 12.5 Chinese beta and discovered a snippet called “keyguard_wireless_strong_charge_67w.” This snippet was tied to two items called star and mars, and XDA-Developers says that these are code-names for two upcoming Xiaomi devices.
It’s believed that star and mars could be variants of the same device. Furthermore, the outlet suggests that star will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 processor, as the code-name has been tied to a mention of the processor along with the Mi 11 (code-named venus). The website even uncovered a logo for 67W charging, seen below.
So which Xiaomi phone will be first to offer 67W wireless charging then? Well, we’d like to think that the Mi 11 Pro will offer the feature first, but Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station suggests that a higher-end Xiaomi phone could pack it (ostensibly an Ultra or Pro Plus variant). Check out the machine-translated post below.
Either way, it looks like Xiaomi will be breaking records soon with 67W wireless charging. Hopefully the company is able to keep heat and battery degradation under control too. In the meantime, you can check out our rundown of the best wireless chargers.
